Comment from US publisher on a gory history book now in production:
I found this manuscript to be very engaging. The author did a wonderful job researching all those horrible facts!

Non Fiction
Rainforest
Kingfisher books
isbn 978-0753465769
Lifecycles is a series of eight books for Kingfisher each describing the life cycles of animals in different habitats. The ‘story’ part is that the books follow a food chain from beginning to grisly end.
Ice Race
Evans
isbn 9780347542023
I devised the Take Two series for Evans. Titles combine a story with background information in a really exciting format that kids love.
Grasslands
Barrington Stoke
isbn 9781842997000
Wham! is a series I devised for Barrington Stoke, who publish high interest, low reading age titles. They were looking to expand their non-fiction list and I came up with the idea of telling the story of a food chain, leaving in the gory bits that will appeal to teenagers.
Hieroglyphs
Kingfisher
isbn 978-0753419311
Codequest combines my interests in codes and history. I devised a modern story that sets the reader code-breaking challenges to solve an ancient Egyptian mystery: Where is the golden cat?
The Father of the Hybrid Car
Crabtree, 2009
isbn 978-0778746775
A biography of hybrid car pioneer Victor Wouk for Crabtree’s Green Voices series. There was nothing published on Victor Wouk, so I worked online, everything was researched on the web, where I also located his son in America and interviewed him online.
Comment from US packager of biography of Victor Wouk, green car pioneer:
You did a wonderful job. You made a book about the development of the hybrid car into a fascinating story that people would care about.
Fiction
Topspin
Barrington Stoke
isbn 9781842998274
A ‘high interest, low reading age’ title for Barrington Stoke. They wanted a sports theme, and I used my knowledge of tennis to tell the story of Tim’s struggle to keep playing when his dad leaves the family home. I have more fiction titles with Barrington Stoke and A&C Black coming out in 2012.
The Pharaoh's Toothache
Evans Brothere, 2009
isbn 978-0237540326
One of two playscripts for Evans that I developed from musicals I wrote to be performed by the children at my school. I had to lengthen the stories considerably, changing the structure and adding new characters.
Comment from UK publishing director on a proposed fiction book for 8-12 year olds:
It is superb. I read a lot of children’s fiction and it knocks the socks off much of the material already published. I’ve been wading through manuscripts by well-known published authors and your idea is so much better.
